King Marquis holds fast to his values of heart and character. With the mindset of a true king, and the hunger of a beast, the only thing that matters now is the top of the Hip-Hop food chain. Born JaVonte' Marquis, the oldest of three, his love for music started at an early age. He was raised by a hardworking mother and stepfather on the South Side of Chicago. Work ethic and tenacity was instilled early on as he frequently set in on his stepfather's studio sessions. Observant and waiting, he slowly developed his own aspirations. It was not until age 12 that those aspirations fully developed, and King Marquis wrote his first rap. Though his early exposure to music inspired him greatly, there were other matters that contributed to his drive.
No stranger to adversity, King Marquis was left with limited eyesight after surviving Retinoblastoma; A rare cancer of the retina. Even with the thickest skin, King Marquis could not help but feel different. Not immune to human nature, being taunted by some of his grade-school peers inevitably caused slight insecurity. Refusing to be held back, King Marquis took the ridicule in stride, using it as fuel for fire and later accepted it as a greater gift than curse. Now in his prime at 22-years-old, King Marquis is ready to bring his career full circle. In control of his own destiny he remains loyal to Dyn2Live Records, an independent label managed by family.
Despite his uncle's established position with RCA Records, King Marquis values creating his own success and starting from the bottom. Influenced by 90's Hip Hop, King Marquis looks up to artist such as; Tupac, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Eminem and more. Working from the ground up with a small but loyal team, King Marquis is ready to make his presence known. King Marquis Quote “People don’t value life-but destroy it” I want to teach my young brothers to think about the future, about self, about life and what they really want… That’s what music is supposed to do…and that’s what I do”
